Tradeshow season is here!

Are you planning a trade show now that business is getting back to normal after the New Year’s festivities? Doing a tradeshow booth takes planning and some thought. With some work before the show, the time you spend at your booth, and the show in general, can be more effective both during and after the show.

Here’s a simple 4 part plan that might help:

1. Distribute something to potential tradeshow attendees to encourage them to visit your booth. It can be a postcard, actual item or something to peak their interest. It can be as simple as “Show this postcard or email at our booth and get X”. That handout can be a tool, item or something with your name on it to take home, just for those who bring the mailing or email to the booth.

2. Have a different handout to give to everyone visiting the booth. Good items to give are something for the desk, car or refrigerator. Why the fridge? People visit their refrigerator at least 10 times in a day, a simple magnet or button there will get them seeing your name day after day, time after time. We have frame magnets, business card size, custom shapes and more. Think outside the box and we can find it for you!

3. Hold a drawing at your booth for some kind of item or offer that takes place several times during the day. It can draw people to your booth and back to see if they won. This can be a gift of some type, gift card to local establishment or something bigger, your budget, your choice. Use something creative to collect the business cards or entry forms, a glass bowl or vase vs a box. People want to enter (your chance to collect more business names) if they see others are also entering. Have plenty of your own business cards and some blank slips for those who don’t have a business card themselves.

4. Post show follow-ups are also vital so that the company is ready for a visit from one of your sales people. That can be a postcard, email, some touch that shows that you follow up after you meet someone.

Creating Business Buzz with Your Customers

Getting a new client or customer’s attention is one thing, keeping their attention is another.  Part of doing a booth at a tradeshow or event is capturing the attendees attention.  When they walk by your booth, do they see you standing up, smiling, being open for business or do they see you munching on a sandwich, hunkered down with your face in a book?  Standing up increases your energy level right away and refrain from eating in your booth area.  You are renting that space for the day or days so don’t squander the time you could be interacting with potential customers.  Do you have something interesting to hand out as they stop by to inquire.  Business cards like these that we did for an Seo toronto booth are a must but if you have something they will remember, you have won part of the battle.  Everyone else is vying for their attention as well.  A well thought out item, interesting, bright, useful and affordable for you to hand out in volume, can pay for itself over and over.  Basically you want to be in one of 3 places in a person’s life, where they spend the most time…their desk, their car or on their refrigerator…what does that mean?  Think real estate, their desk is like land.  If you can give something that they think is desktop worthy, a great coaster, a handy, colorful mousepad, a great mug or computer calendar, those will keep your name in front of them all the time they are at their desk.  In their car, an auto mug, an air freshener, either hanging or one that goes in air conditioner slots, a CD sleeve that goes on the visor…and their refrigerator, think magnets or magnet frames.  Average person spends their time in one of those 3 areas so think what can you give to keep your name out there.

Trade Show Handouts for 2010

Time to start thinking about what you will hand out at your trade show booth in 2010.  You want something people will keep, use and remember where they got it.  Pens are very popular items to hand out.  They come in all kinds of price points so there’s a pen for everyone’s budget.  A nice pen that someone uses every day can make a great marketing tool at a trade show or networking event.  Industry experts say that the average pen has 7 owners.  People pick a pen up here, leave it as they sign a receipt or write a note, the next person picks it up and does the same and so on.  The person you originally handed it to may not be the eventual one who keeps it so make sure your contact information is on the pen as well as what you do if it’s not obvious from the name.  Good pens make great silent marketing partners. Time and again people report they got referrals from someone saying, “I have a pen and here’s the name of a VPS Hosting, servers, etc.”   Lastly, why wait until just before the trade show or event, order your items today and you will be set when the event rolls around.
